The Azari family chanced upon this vineyard, almost by divinity. We have been lucky enough to farm it, and the result must be experienced. It was 1988 when the Azari came into possession of what has become Azari Vineyards. On a drive through the Sonoma Coast, Kamal and Parichehr stumbled upon a property that would be home to its unique Pinot Noir. With one look, the couple heard the land whisper to them, and stir their souls. Though it was only a humble lot of untilled land, the small parcel sang of infinite possibilities. Twenty-five years later, the two children have been joined by a third, and the small parcel has been transformed into a magnificent vineyard estate. As in all aspects of their lives, the Azari family's winemaking approach is steeped in a Persian heritage of hospitality and appreciation for nature’s simplicity. Pinot Noir vines planted in the Pacific Maritime stream of the Petaluma Gap were an obvious choice, in addition to a second crop of cool-climate Shiraz, harkening back to Kamal’s family roots in Shiraz, Iran.
