Gary and Marlene spent most of their working life moving around the country in corporate jobs. Gary was in manufacturing, mostly in the packaging industry, managing plants for companies like Proctor and Gamble and Crown Zellerback. Marlene was in high tech working for IBM and retiring early as an EVP with Hitachi Data Systems. They spent their downtime at their house on the coast, boating and traveling the world. Raising avocados and grapes was not part of their long-term plan.
They came to De Luz by accident and fell in love with the area while driving down the winding roads through stands of oak trees and avocado groves. They kept coming back and slowly a new vision of their future was formed. They found the perfect property high on a hill with expansive views to the west and south. Only twelve miles from the ocean, the coastal climate, with its cool evenings and morning fog, surprised them.
