Our roots run deep beneath the soils of Napa Valley where we continue to farm our 100+ year old estate vineyards and produce wonderful wines that are true expressions of the terroir. We are one of the few old, small family wineries in Napa Valley.
Founded by immigrants from Italy, Libero Pocai, and from Ireland, John Ballentine, it has been owned and operated by four generations since 1906, yet still remains a hidden gem. Today, Van and Betty Ballentine (third generation) and their son Frank Ballentine continue to build on the legacy of respect for the land and enjoyment of the wines as a family and with all who visit us.
Today our Ballentine Family includes, from left to right, Morgan Bacigalupi, our tasting room manager, and Marcy Webb, our assistant winemaker. Behind Marcy is our cellar master Luis Montanez; next see Betty and Van Ballentine with Eric Ortiz, cellar team, behind them. Bruce Devlin, our winemaker since 1999, is standing next to Martha Grant, our office manger . Ricardo Montanez, cellar team, is next standing next to Mary O’Hara-Devereaux, research and marketing.
Having a great team who feel as though Ballentine is their winery too has always been a high value for us. The work is challenging but joyful, and we try to remain true to what Mother Nature brings us each year as we celebrate in the harvest and the releases.
We aim to provide our guests an authentic involvement with a working boutique winery and a real Napa Valley experience rooted in our history and our future.
