Sonoma Valley Old Vine Estate Vineyard 2021
Our 2021 Sonoma Valley ‘Old Vine Estate Vineyard’ Barbera opens with the tantalizing fragrance of bright red fruit of cherry and raspberry that alludes to the complex flavors infused in the wine. A luscious body of tender ripe plum, juicy strawberry and blackberry unite with soothing a touch of spice as it spreads across the palate. Pomegranate, blackberry, and lightly toasted oak intertwine with soft and supple tannins on the lingering, graceful, finish that leaves you craving another sip. This Barbera stands out as unparalleled among its peers due to its exceptional qualities stemming from the old vine clone, low yield, and impeccable fruit and canopy balance. These distinctive characteristics culminate in a wine of unmatched depth, complexity, and finesse, setting a standard of excellence.

Ledson Winery & Vineyards
When Steve Ledson, a fifth generation Sonoma County viticulturist, winemaker, entrepreneur and philanthropist, started construction in 1989, he had envisioned an ideal property for a future residence. He planted 17 acres of Merlot and began to build the house. As the months passed, the turrets, slate roofs, balconies and fountains took shape and passersby started to take notice, some going so far as to climb the fences to get a better look.
Seeing the enormous potential beyond a family home, Steve realized that it was time to rethink the plan. Given an intense public interest in the magnificent structure being built and the quality of the Merlot harvested from the estate vineyard – which had been sold to nearby wineries – he decided to turn what was intended as a family home into a winery and tasting room.
In 1997 Steve released his first wine, the 1994 Ledson Estate Merlot and in 1999 after two years of reconstruction, the winery opened its doors to the public.
An instant landmark, Ledson Winery, known as “The Castle” around the globe, is an architectural showpiece. The 16,000 square foot French Normandy structure was designed entirely by Steve Ledson and features sweeping staircases, marble fireplaces, cathedral-style windows, coffered ceilings, several tasting bars, and over five miles of ornate wood inlays and mosaics, which were hand-cut and installed by Steve’s son, Mike.
The Castle provides a stunning setting for wine tasting weekends, romantic getaways and executive retreats. VinePair called it, “One of the twelve most impressive wineries in the world” and the Boston Globe said, “This castle is a must see.”
The Ledson Winery tasting rooms and marketplace are open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for. We encourage you to treat yourself to a private tasting. Please RSVP at 707.537.3823 or send an email to tastings@ledson.com.
